I didn't think I'd do a baseball post for a while, but there's already stuff happening. With cold weather finally starting hit here, I think it's now appropriate to do some hot stove stuff:
-For a couple of weeks, it's been reported that the Padres want to move Jake Peavy. One of suitors seem to be my beloved Cubs. I'm not sure where this is going or why the Cubs are doing this. They could be hedging on two or three things. One: They might actually Ryan Dempster go, who is now a free agent. I think letting Dempster go would be a bad thing. Two, they could be counting on Rich Harden being hurt at some point, which is a very safe bet. And third, maybe they lose Kerry wood, keep Dempster and send him back to the bullpen. I'm guessing we'll see some results sometime this week...
-Word is that that Colorado is looking to move Matt Holliday, perhaps their best player. On Sunday, when I first heard this, it looked like Holiday was moving to St. Louis. Now, it looks like Holliday is getting traded to Oakland. Which I find very shocking considering their economics. But Colorado must be considering theirs, as Holliday becomes a free agent next year. They must feel he is unsignable. The what the hell is Oakland doing, unless they plan on moving him...Interesting stuff.
-Word is also out that Trevor Hoffman will no longer be pitching for the Padres. After 16 years, Hoffman will be moving on. There are many teams in the market for a closer, even one almost through as a closer. I'm wondering if the Cubs will trade off Wood for Hoffman, since Wood tends to be injury prone. Again...this could prove to be interesting.
-Of course there's still major free agents like Manny Rameriez, CC Sabathia and Ben Sheets. I saw that of all teams interested in Manny...it could be Florida!!! Check this out if you don't believe me: http://cityofchamps.wordpress.com/2008/11/11/manny-we-missed-you/
It does make a certain degree of sense. Whether the Dodgers still throw a ton of misguided money, it remains to be seen.
-The Nats and Marlins made a trade of seemingly meaningless players. I wonder what this sets up??
Stay tuned for more..I'm sure now that the oven seal has been opened, we will see a lot more
No dutch ovens please......
