College Football Week #12: Sour Grapes

You might as well call this week in college football the blank week. Still bitter after Penn State's first loss of the year, I've decided to take a powder. No college football for me as I've decided to boycott this week's games. My wife doesn't believe I'll actually stay away. I'll let you know if it actually worked.

In any case, I'll still give you some random notes :
-Is it just me, or does it seem like there's many people out there criticizing the BCS? We have a contract renewal coming up on this thing, which you would think be prime time for a playoff. But instead, we have rumblings that communist ESPN wants to take this thing over.
-If there was a playoff, we could get exciited about bubble teams and bubble games like we do in basketball. Kinda like getting excited about baseball's wild card.

-Another thing truly baffling about this BCS thing is that the Big East and ACC conference "winners" get automatic BCS bowl berts. Ladies and gents that means WKRP in Cincinnati and some hopeless loser from the ACC get in expensive bowl games and two possible undefeated teams lose out. You tell me who the true winner in this scenario is...
-Sad to hear that Joe Paterno still has sleepless nights after tough loses. Someone with the health issues that he has needs his beauty sleep!!

-One last bitter rant: with a weak economy, how much longer will universities allow expensive buyouts such as Phillip Fulmer's $6 million? With funding get cut out our institutions of higher learning, does this seem fair? I think not...

Now to the games I won't be watching:
-Notre Dame vs. Navy. Does Navy start a winning streak against the Fighting Irish? How much trouble is Charlie Weis in? Is Notre Dame still relevant? These questions will be answered in a Navy win 35-31.

-South Carolina vs. Florida. Spurrier Bowl!! Wouldn't it just suck for the BCS if the Gamecocks pull off the upset? Wishful thinking...Florida 45-28.

-Kansas vs. Texas. Wishful thinking for Kansas here as well...but Texas prevails 51-30.

-UNC vs. Maryland. No, this is not an usually great basketball matchup in November. This game is to see who still is left standing the muddled mess of ACC football. This time, the bad Maryland shows up, as UNC wins with a Tyler Hansbrough TD 24-17.

-Cal vs. Oregon State. You know Oregon State is in position to win the Pac 10, right? Here's to more BCS bubble busting by the Beavers 31-20.
-USC vs. Stanford. Can lightning strike again for Stanford? Unfortunately not....Trojans 42-21.

-Alabama vs. Mississippi State. Upset of the year? Jared's on crack and says...YES. Mississsippi State 27-24.

Informal poll question: Will Jared watch NCAA football this week? Please send me your answers to: jaredsportsriff@gmail.com
